INTERVIEW WITH FASHION DESIGNER RAMSES OSARIO
Q.) What or who inpires you?
I get my inspiration from life, there’s nothing more beautiful than life. It’s full of color, movement, texture. I get inspiration from the people that has led us where we are right now, the fighters that fought for our rights. I think that’s pretty inspiring. But inspiration comes from everything.
Q.) Why did you want to become a fashion designer?
I think fashion has been always I wanted to do, my aunt is a seamstress, so I got all the interest from her when I watched her sew. I fell in love with fashion when I watched the Moschino Collection with the Barbie clothes.
Q.) How would you describe your fashion aesthetic? (ie, boho, street, avant garden, minimalist, classic, etc.)
I think I would say “Life in Pink” just because I love pink, it’s such a pretty color. I don’t know how to describe my aesthetic, but I think it’s a mixture of pink, art, crazy and messy, that’s a good way to put it.
Q.) If you could give any advice to aspiring design students what would it be?
Follow your gut, sometimes people will say it’s too much, but sometimes too much isn’t enough.
Q.) How was your past experience preparing and participating in the fashion show?
Its been pretty fun, I have got to show my pieces to people. I think all it matters is that it has been fun.
Q.) What is your favorite garment you have created?
My favorite garment has been my Pink Gown. It’s big, crazy, and fun. It also used 80 yds of tulle.
Q.) What are your future aspirations as a fashion designer?
I have so many. I want to have my own label, I want to work for a well recognized brand. But, I think my biggest aspirations is that I want to use the platform to help others in need.
Q.) How do you feel about incorporating sustainable methods to your designs? Would you pursue an eco friendly collection?
Totally!!! Almost all of my designs are made of scraps of fabric that I find, that people give me. I rarely buy fabric. I used old clothes to create something new. So yes, I think I would like to have a sustainable brand.
