DIY: 10 MIN SUPER EASY FACE MASK
Why hello!
Are you feeling anxious or sad? Why not sew a face mask?
Face masks are surprisingly easy to make and much nicer when made from real fabrics rather than the environmentally unfriendly plastics. They will make a wonderful gift for your grandparents, someone immuno deficient or anyone who is feeling the stress of the world.
Personally, I like to spray an essential oil like lemon oil on the outside of the mask, and relax from the world.
As you can see, my face mask is inspired by lemons.
"when the world gives you lemons, make lemonade"
What will you need?
-2 small scraps of fabric (7 inches x 7.5 inches) cotton recommended
-a needle and thread (or sewing machine)
-4 ribbons measuring each at least 15 inches each, or elastic ( you can also sew your own fabric ties)
Lets Begin!
-Find two rectangular pieces you can sew together measuring at 7 inches by 7. 5 inches. In my pattern there is a seam allowance of 0.5 inches. All that means is, you sew 0.5 inches inside your cut fabric.
-Make sure the side you want is facing the inside of where you will sew. It is important because you will flip it out at the end.
-Place the 4 ribbons inside, and at each corner. Pin it, and then begin to sew a long the line, leaving a small opening. (See top photo above for a clear view)
-Flip out the fabric, and hand sew the small hole up.
-Make 3 pleats
You can either eyeball three even pleats, or you can take my measurements which is a little more complicated. (below)
-The pattern I made is a bit difficult to read but basically you can see it is 7 inches x 7.5 inches.
The mask itself is 6 inches x 6.5 inches
-The 3 pleats are marked in blue 1.5 inches apart. The width of that pleat is marked at 1/2 an inch from the blue dashed line. If you fold the paper correctly the circled blue arrows will line up together.
-For the final step, sew along the two sides to secure the pleats. Thats it!
Much love and Hugs,
Maya
